Icon of the Mother of God "Rescuer of the Drowning".

This is a copy of the original miraculous Icon lost to the Church during the Russian revolution in 1917. The title of this Icon is the Icon of the Mother of God against drowning.  A very apt Icon for Britain at the moment as it faces floods and tidal surges and we ask for Her intercession.

The original Icon started off in a church dedicated to the synaxsis of the most -holy Theotokos  in a small village of Lenkovo near Novgorod Russia. The town of Lenkovo was completely destroyed in the 17th Century. The miraculous Icon  was found on the riverbank opposite  a dangerous whirlpool on the busy Desno River. A church was built there and  the dangerous whirlpool gradually ceased.

The Icon is revered amongst sea faring folk.

Today the copy is installed in the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in Novgorod, which since its installation in 2003 has undergone a revival.
